AskLinux: What would it take to make downloads easy?
Post Body

While some apps don't even support Desktop Linux (we're still a pretty small/fringe group, as much progress as we've made!), those that do seem to have to support a wide range of "Linux" architectures, distros and CPUs in order to reach "all Linux users." For example, Vivaldi (a web browser) looks like this (see below).

At a glance, what I feel from this drop-down is "Mac is easy; Windows makes me think; Linux is hard". What would it take to make downloads "easy" from the perspective of an end-user? Can we combine CPU architectures into one executable (like Multi-Architecture Binaries or Mach-O)? Can flatpak solve the RPM vs DEB problem? Could Actually Portable Executable help? Is something else needed?
