Linkedin premium has ruined my belief I can get a job
Post Body

I don't think it is possible to get a job on LinkedIn by simply applying. All of the supposed jobs I am qualified for have hundreds or thousands of applicants already. When I just looked for certain jobs, applied filters, only looking back 24 hours and still hundreds or thousands of applicants.

I don't know if this is the same fucked up counting they use elsewhere, but I hope it is or else I don't see a reason to apply to jobs.

I've been keen towards networking more and I think that's the only way to get your foot in the door for just a screening with HR. That's the best you can do in this job market. I hope some comments and tells me how wrong I am.

What types of jobs are you applying for? 100% remote jobs are definitely the most competitive and it’s easy for any resume to get lost in the shuffle when there are 100 applicants. Try to find a hiring manager and reach out to him/her directly. And by all means, you should really only apply to jobs you’re actually qualified for. Good luck!

This is very true. It's important to not lose hope if you see a job posted with 100 applicants. To your point, it's unlikely that more than 10% of those apps are actually qualified/a good fit. What is challenging is for that job poster to filter through all those applicants and I, like many others, will stop once I've found a couple of good candidates. That means if you applied earlier on, your resume might not ever get seen. Always try to track down an actual person and send your resume along with a VERY brief note... vs just applying into the abyss. Good luck!

They do not charge you as a candidate. They make money from your future employer when they place you. And yes, search on Google and LinkedIn and filter by partners/MDs… email them and include your resume. With as many specifics as possible. Good luck!

Definitely good to try to connect with hiring team. Unfortunately, the market is tight right now. The good news is, that changes on a dime. I would find a good agency recruiter or two in your area and let them be your advocate as well. Search for big names like Robert Half or Adecco, depending on your area of work; then find a partner or “managing director” in that area. These people are usually more senior/well-connected and recruiters are incentivized to help you find work. If they can place you, trust me, they will.
