I understand that it’s offensive for non-Black people to use AAVE, especially when it’s used mockingly or in stereotypical/negative situations.
However I was wondering if this is still the case for non-Black people who were raised in families or communities with a lot of Black people / AAVE speakers and naturally picked up that language in their youth - so it’s not being used appropriatively, but it’s just what they know.
Anyone can answer but especially interested in opinions from Black Americans or those with an anthro/linguistics/related background.
Apologies if this question is offensive at all but it’s just something I’ve been genuinely curious about!
