Just learned that the infamous Meat & Beer store on 11th and Cornhusker is closing in the next couple months and apparently will be replaced by a church... Sure, it will be sad to see the sign go, but this post is more about food deserts in Lincoln. Belmont will probably qualify as one.
I definitely don’t go to Meat & Beer to get all of my grocery items (it admittedly was run really poorly), but it was super convenient to walk a few blocks to grab extra ingredients if I needed them. The closest grocery store to Belmont will now be the Super Saver on N 27th. I know this probably seems like whining to some people, but these food deserts are big issues in lower-income areas like Belmont, where car ownership is not a given.
Anyway, curious what everyone’s thoughts are on food availability in Lincoln. Or feel free to pay your respects to a north Lincoln icon.
Wow the place they made the don't drink and drive commercial is finally shutting down. Changed names so many times while I was in the area I jus hope it's not gonna be some stuffy corporate place that gatekeeps their parking lot in the summer lol
