Hey all, some (hopefully) helpful tips about my first day in MDH2.
Passive tree for MD2 is busted. The two increased cost nodes should be your highest priority, letting you bring in a third 000. 1 Max Speed nodes are also pretty good, especially when using naturally slow units like LCCB Ishmael.
Get some 00s up to snuff. Ideally, you'll only need 2.
LCCB Ish deals good damage, is OK at clashing, but most importantly brings in a very valuable blunt resist. Many top tier units take fatal damage from blunt: TT Hong Lu, R Heath, Spicebrush Yi Sang, LobCorp Faust.
LobCorp Faust is also a great pick. Her S3 has great clashing potential, and Faust has, imo, the most important Ego to bring into MD2H: Fluid Sac. This deals decent AoE damage and heals HP and SP for the entire team.
There's other good 00s like KK Hong Lu, Shi Don and 7 Ryoshu, but these two are the clear winners for me.
Selecting who clashes against what becomes extremely important. This makes Bind an amazing status against bosses and stronger units. Meursault's Chains and Ryoshu's Red Eyes are good here.
Accept that not every clash indicator is going to be "Dominating". A "Neutral" is not a death sentence unless you're fighting a boss that oneshots you (read: bull, MFE).
Redirect skills to Sinners that are resistant to it, even when it means a higher chance to lose a clash. "Favored" R Heath S2 vs an NCorp S3 (Blunt)? Tank it with LCCB Ish instead. A lost clash that will mean certain death for one sinner can be a minor inconvenience to another one. Remember that Fluid Sac heals sinners for 15% HP when used.
Related to both of the above: HP is a resource. Learn how to spend it. Even non tank units can take a hit or two, especially if it's resisted. If you see you're going to lose a clash, don't immediately go for the EGO button. Is your character healthy? Do they resist the incoming attack? Are they far from a stagger threshold? If they are not, is the attack only one coin and not going to deal Fatal damage?
Use AoE EGO to stagger enemies. On Floors 4 and 5, when you have more resources to spare, you might save some sinners by having someone who moves first or second use an EGO, even if you didn't need it to win a clash.
EGO Resource gifts are not strictly necessary, but they provide you with a lot of leeway. You can beat MD2H almost without using EGO if you're careful, but it's always easier to hit a button to win a clash 90% of the time.
Use Fluid Sac/Execution if you're using NFaust to top out Sinner SP. You're already in a bad place due to insane coin buffs. Low sanity = bad.
Abno encounters are, imo, much easier. Being able to choose clashes is good, and the Peccatulum deal laughably low damage even with buffs if you get them. You can also choose to clash with your slower units and get uncontested damage on them with faster sinners, often triggering stagger thresholds and ending the abno's turn.
I'm sure there's a lot more to this, but these are some things I found helpful on my first runs. My first 5 are Spicebrush Yi, LCCB Ish, LobCorp Faust, TT Hong Lu and R Heath. Hong Lu and LC Faust are godsends in saving EGO resources with their high value S3s. I bring in Chef Ryo as my 6th and have used both G Gregor (me use Legerdemain, me storng) and Rose Rodion as 7th.
