Does anyone else think Earl Swearshirt's 'Solace' was clearly inspired by Lil Ugly Mane's 'Uneven Compromise'?
Post Body

Similarities:

  • 10 minute, 1 track EP consisting of numerous parts jumbled together.
  • 3 different parts containing lyrics with an instrumental at the end.
  • Piano interlude between one of the parts (the beginning of Part 2 for Earl vs. the beginning of Part 3 for Lil Ugly Mane).
  • Echoing lyrics during an interlude that establish a theme (Earl: "It was like that the whole time, we'll be alright / Stayin' up all night, but it's alright" vs. Ugly: "Labels / Feel no guilt / Takin' yah money / The reason that my people say they tired of rap").

Does anyone else think this is more than coincidental? The concept of a multi-part hip hop track of this length is really not common whatsoever. I can't believe Earl just sporadically had the same idea as Lil Ugly Mane, especially knowing Earl is a big fan of Ugly's.

Do you guys agree?
