[EP3 SPOILERS] Supporting David Madsen
Post Body

One thing I've seen crop up a few times after Episode 3's release is a large dislike and distrust of David Madsen, Blackwell's Chief of Security.

I can understand the dislike. David is a hammer and sees everything as a nail which is a rather poor attitude in a High School filled with different personalities and many moral grey areas. He prefers security over personal privacy and has poor anger management. These are all good reasons to dislike the man.

However, I'd argue that David is actually one of the most trustworthy characters in the game. Not so much in a sense where you can tell him your personal secrets, but in the sense that you can trust how he'd react to a given situation and you can indeed trust him to carry out his duty as a security officer to the letter.

Where the Principal, Jefferson, Nathan and Frank all feel like they're hiding something sinister, by Episode 3 we find out that David Madsen isn't at all. Yes he has files on teenagers, but so he can carry out his duties better. Yes he interrogates Kate, but he believes that she's on drugs. Yes he harasses Chloe, but so that she can stop smoking pot and start being more proactive. Do his methods work? Not all the time, but a letter to the science teacher that you can find in the school states that he has been successful in reducing campus crime (by ~15%?). He's trying to do his job as a security officer and a father figure but he needs as much guidance as Chloe.

For the first time in Episode 3 we were given the choice to actually support David rather than just choose to attack others instead. Emotionally speaking, showing David that even just a single student is willing to support his efforts and cut him some slack could reaffirm his desire to help the school. From what we've seen, David does care about his family, the school and the children.

Hell, even if you hate David, Max's world seems to be stacked against her and she'll need as many allies as she can get. As far as allies go, she can at least trust David to be incorruptible.
