Firstly, Save Scumming is the practice of reloading a game when you get a result that you don't like, to a point before that result. Whilst the name sounds like a negative term, it is not necessarily so.
Life Is Strange actively promotes Save Scumming by giving Max the power to rewind time to a point before she makes decisions. Max even suggests using her powers in this way through internal dialogue and there are audio/visual cues for when it is best to do so.
EP2 SPOILERS START HERE
However, there is one point in the game, at the end of Episode 2, when the power to do so is taken away and you have to rely significantly on information you've gathered from Kate's room. Whilst your previous choices involving Kate seem to matter, mentioning which family member(s) has her back and the correct Bible verse seem to tip the scales.
What I've noticed by talking to friends and looking at Let's Play channels is that it is possible to fail these checks, have Kate die, but then reload the chapter and choose other options to achieve success - basically using rewind powers where there aren't supposed to be any. The game even makes this easy as restarting the scene jumps you straight back into the rooftop confrontation fairly quickly.
So what do you all think about this? Is Save Scumming right or wrong in this context? Specifically to the people who failed, did you restart or did you leave it alone? And why in either case?
