How to be more personal with people without giving too much information about yourself?
Post Body

Just started a new job and am currently going through the new guy phase. Everything has been good but I'm naturally a very reserved person and have always had issues with starting conversations with people beyond hey how are you and work related topics. This sounds bad but I don't really want to give too much personal information about myself and my life to my coworkers (a lot of them are nice but can be a bit of a gossip to be honest lol). At the same time though I still want to get along with my coworkers and not feel too much like an odd person out with them. Any tips on that?

Choose a few inoffensive hobbies, say gardening, running, playing tabletop games.

Then when you get asked about your weekend, or vacation plans, start from there and only give info about those.

"How was you weekend?" (You were at a swinger's festival): "Well I really, desperately, need to plant my tomatoes, they are almost bursting out of their pre-grow pots. And I already have prepared everything for it, but the weather was so-so and I didn't want them to get mouldy like last year when it was so rainy, if you remember. But I did dig the holes and when I saw on Sunday that it was going to be dry the next few days, I watered the pre-grow pots so that the tomatoes will slide out easily. I'm hoping to do it today after work. How was yours?"
