I have life coaching mentors who never have had websites, never had to go out and get people through marketing campaigns, never did email blasts, never did social media marketing campaigns, never did blogging, etc. etc. and it was more like the Universe / Spirit still came along and filled up their practices/events to give them "enough" clients and money to get supported.
Learning how to do this their way incidentally isn't something that can really be sold or marketed. . .what someone would have to do to turn themselves out to have this happen isn't really marketable - although some spiritual marketers may try. . .
Anyhow, for my mentors sometimes there were lots of people who came around to their events to work with them and sometimes next to no one but it always worked out in the end (with a lot of cliffhangers and clients showing up at the 11th hour).
One of them got a strong "hunch / inner senses" to buy a house right outside Joshua Tree National Park with his wife's money and led groups to one or two people for many years losing money hand over fist with the bank account going down and down close to nothing - just because he got a "yes" to do that and was even willing to go completely broke, lose everything, and live out on the street and have his wife leave him. . . (something I find virtually one is willing to do to break up their attachment to money - it seems that once someone has money, success, fame - life then tends to become all about preserving it, protecting it, making it grow, not betting the farm, not taking risks that might have it all go away (and having to suppress or ignore any hunches that would put that at risk - only following the hunches when it was convenient and relatively comfortable to do so).
Anyhow - one day after years of losing money, at one of his events someone showed up who loved what he was doing who brought dozens of people to come and all of a sudden people from all over the world were coming - he had a completely full practice / schedule and over-abundance of money came in (when it didn't really matter either since he wasn't attached to the money). I share this story as it's something you probably wouldn't hear someone like Rich Litvin, Tony Robbins, etc. market and sell in this particular way - sharing all the details (lest they stopped caring how many people showed up at their gigs).
I've been finding the same . . .and been gradually been letting go of doing all the marketing I used to do. . . it's mostly about "going inside" and listening and trusting and acting on the inner guidance of what to do. . .When I started my practice years ago - I initially started with doing all the standard social media marketing that everyone seems to do. . .stuff they might teach you to do at a school - which is all good by the way and nothing wrong with starting there. I was also really good at filling courses for others and myself - but nowadays I can't find it anywhere inside myself to go and do that anymore (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, blogging, Instagram marketing, email blasts - plus they don't really work anymore as they used to) . . .or even to have a fancy website (although I have a website I created years ago but mostly just gets left alone and certainly didn't do any SEO or consistent blogging or anything like that. At the same time - what I'm suggesting is not "prescriptive" or a formula. . .just what I heard to do. . .for someone else it might be totally the right thing to do that.
I enjoy writing so occasionally post on some online forums but haven't found it produces results - on the rare occasion I might have someone contact me who resonates with what I wrote and we do some work together . . .but I'm thinking it's more like putting up a flag for people who are a point in their growth where they're lost, don't know the next move, and it might serve as a useful sign post for someone to know that there are other ways outside of the box of doing things.
It's funny with the courses and events I used to put together and lead - it used to be all about the numbers of people in the courses. . .the very first thing so many people would ask me after leading a course or putting one together was "how many people were at the course?" - as if the number of people was the determinant factor whether or not the event was a success.
If I said 20, they would say "great" and be smiling. If I said 2, they would say "that's too bad" and frowning. I found it the same with registration events - success was always measured by the number of people who signed up. . .Never was I asked "how much goodness or richness did that course produce for the people who were there?" or "was the event good for you to lead (regardless of how many showed up)?" I found that if I followed my hunch / sense, so often, I might only get a few people, but someone out of the blue from out of left field from somewhere else would show up to support things financially.
Also, I find the quality of people in a course is completely different when the Universe filled the course or an event versus me or others trying to get bums in seats or "selling" people on being there. I remember leading events where most people gradually would get up and leave (once they got what they came for and moving on before the event ended). . . eventually we'd be down to a handful of people out of a whole room but the conversation became so much more extraordinarily rich, authentic, real, and deep with the ones that stayed - something that would not have been possible if there was a much bigger crowd of people including the ones who had to be "sold" on being there versus trusting that the Universe was putting together the "right" people.
All this being said - maybe someone else gets a "yes" (hunch / intuition) to go and do all the intensive marketing and maybe they really enjoy doing it . . .that's all good . . .I think someone should follow that and nothing wrong with doing that. I just don't get a 'yes" personally to go and do it . . .sure there are some things that I still get some intuition to go and do (i.e. put on an event for existing clients, call an old person up I haven't talked to in a long time, write a piece to be published - when it feels good and right to do that) but that's about all nowadays.
The process brings up lots of fear, letting things go, having a ton of fear and anger to "process out" and trust more and more - but also very liberating not having to do certain things to maintain - and can now see that a lot of what was driving me having to do all the marketing stuff I used to do - was mainly out of fear of survival. . .now that I can see that "things work out" it changes everything and easier to let go of having to do things a certain way.
It's funny, someone might read this post / response and think it's cool and their "mind" might want to copy it and turn it into a clever spiritual marketing piece . . .it would be interesting to see what they come up with. . .
Incidentally, I don't recommend doing what I took on unless they get a "yes" to go and do it. I've found it to be an insanely wild ride. . .lots of 11th hour cliffhangers . . .yet a magical way to live for sure at the same time - seeing that you can actually get taken care of financially even giving up the marketing stuff creates a lot more space for gratitude as a result, time for reflection, not having to be so driven constantly / make things happen anymore.
