Are there any lawyers here that could help me possibly with an issue I have or direct me to resources who might be able to help?
My issue: My guns were confiscated after I had a suicide ideation threat where the police were called by my ex-wife. Before you judge I'm a USMC veteran with diagnosed complex PTSD and was at the time in a middle of a separation and subsequent divorce -- I basically had a mental breakdown that evening as my life was literally collapsing all around me on several fronts. There was no actual arrest but I was taken to the Merrifield crisis center for evaluation and then admitted to Dominion Hospital for a mandatory 72 hrs.
Today; Fairfax PD still has my weapons even though the conditions of the event have been met and the incident officer has released them. The conditions were the 72 hour stay at Dominion and then a 6 month confiscation period. The 6 months passed without incident.
After contacting the officer and then scheduling a court appearance after the required confiscation period of 6 months as directed I was still denied access to them by the judge. The Judge was asking for me to show a certification of care by providing my medical records and seemed like he wanted character witnesses or more? I didn't have the extra $$ at time for representation and really still don't. Long story short I no longer suffering SI thoughts from my PTSD and Trauma, and have zero legal issues or arrests but I don't know how to really prove it with my medical records.
I'm just a guy who had a rough time and was overwhelmed by it all, but I'd like to have my weapons back.
**Edit: I live in Fairfax County in Vienna.
Thanks in advance
