When to start teaching firearm safety to kids

Post Body

I'm a hunter and target shooter. I'm also the proud papa to a 4yo girl and 1yo destruction machine called a boy. My girl is starting to be aware of guns simply from me coming home with one now and then, plus the flintlock hanging over an archway. She's starting to understand that some of her food used to have a coat of fur. She's terrifyingly smart, and I don't want to "hide" our discipline from her (aside from locking them up of course) or excessively scare her either. But I want her to be properly educated about them. I look forward to one day sharing the hobby with them as well. Of course the first lesson would consist of "if you see one, don't touch it. Tell a grown up right away." But beyond that I want to know other people's experiences or insight into teaching children about proper firearm use and safety.

:Edit: --- I love this sub. Everyone's support has been awesome.
