Basically, what can we do with the V30 that we can't do with the Pixel and what does the Pixel do that the V30 doesn't?
They're both running Android so they're essentially the same. We'll ignore the fact that the V30 doesn't currently have Oreo (because it's coming). Let's assume performance is the same on both, even after a year. For this discussion, let's also ignore security/OS updates or the lack thereof because there's only one option if timely updates is a factor (Pixel). Let's just focus on what each phone brings to table so those of us still undecided can make up our damn minds. Let's also ignore the price of both.
Let's discuss what's unique about the software, hardware, or other perks of each.
Pixel Pros
- squeezable frame to access assistant (or possibly other shortcuts?)
- easier to unlock and root (and will undoubtedly have better development)
- front facing stereo speakers
- first access to Google Lens (will come to other devices later)
- better volume button placement for right handed users
- bonus power button on the side
- unadulterated Android including Pixel Launcher, if that's your thing
- unlimited original quality photo backup (for three years)
- swipe fingerprint scanner to pull down notifications
- better customer service
- guaranteed support for three years
- good insurance plan
- 6.25% bigger battery (3520 mAh vs. 3300 mAh)
- automatic music detection
- build should make it less susceptible to drop damage
- better camera
- portrait mode
Cons
- unadulterated Android, if that's not your thing
- no headphone jack
- smaller Pixel has the largest bezels
Anything else I missed?
V30 Pros
- slightly smaller bezels
- headphone jack
- better audio output thanks to the DAC
- better volume button placement for left handed users
- floating bar
- navigation bar customization
- double tap to wake
- wide angle front and rear cameras
- LG's skin, if you're into that (I am)
- native system theme engine with themes already available in the Play Store
- custom lock screen shortcuts
- better IP rating (IP68 vs IP67)
- wireless charging
- two year manufacturer warranty (US only?)
- volume & brightness sliders in notification tray
- can change native system resolution (potential battery savings)
- gaming mode settings
- comfort view reduce blue light and eye strain
- Smart cleaning (easy to clear system cache and bulk uninstall apps)
- LG Backup (as powerful as a rooted user using Titanium Backup)
- Smart Settings (IMO a third party app is better, but some will prefer the simplicity of having these features native)
- Settings tabbed view in addition to list view (I love this)
- ring tone ID (automatic custom ring tones for contacts)
- mini view mode
- knock code, voice recognition, and face recognition for unlocking
- app pinning on recent apps screen (prevents selected apps from being closed when you hit clear all... I'm assuming this feature is still present)
- expandable storage
- about 10% lighter than the Pixel XL 2 (158 g/5.57 oz vs. 175 g/6.17 oz).
- haptic feedback on par with iPhone.
- Cinezoom on videos.
- can shoot in RAW
- radio is much more advanced (4xCA vs 3xCA)
Cons
- LG's skin, if you're not into it (it's honestly not that bad)
- LG has terrible customer service (not a problem if you buy through a carrier)
- LG will focus support on their newer devices as they release
- glass back may be prone to damage
I miss anything?
