My parents act weird with gay people- I think-
Post Body

Whenever they talk about someone that’s gay (not that that’s all they talk about, but when they do-) they need to point out the fact that they’re gay, and then immediately follow it up by “it’s ok/ I don’t have a problem with it/ I don’t see them any differently”. It always pisses me off. Not because I believe differently, but like- if you really thought that, what was the point of specifying that they were gay in the first place? It’s not normal to be like “hi, this is my straight friend”. To me, and I’m probably wrong on this with a shitty outlook, but it’s like they win some mental trophy for specifying they view gay people as equal. It’s weird cause they feel like they need to specify it to eachother every time it’s talked about

Like- they both are aware of each others opinions, yet they continually feel the need to say it out loud. Would it not just be a given to treat them equally thus not saying they’re gay? Am I just some homophobe that’s in the wrong here?
