I have the chance to study abroad in Florida for a year (I’m from the UK), I have US citizenship and have been to Georgia and Florida a bunch but I’ve never experienced any kinds of discrimination first hand, all beit I’m pretty straight passing and not in any wlw relationship. I’m bi and pretty open about it bar wearing pride flags or anything but the fact that so many anti lgbt bills have been passed in florida recently makes me nervous to make this decision. Specifically if anyone goes to USF, what’s the demographic like? how’s the general attitude towards lgbt ppl there?
Absolutely not. Last year my wife and I were planning a trip to Florida. Had to cancel over the bathroom bill. I'm not only trans but also intersexed so, I literally had no place to 'legally' pee. Ended up having to move cross country just to get away from the anti queer legislation in the south. So, no. Never go to Florida.
