I'm starting a new journey for five to six players into the frozen north of the Sword Coast. We'll be playing the new Rime of the Frostmaiden adventure (which I've been playtesting!), along with some additional material to cover the weaker spots of the overall adventure arc.
We'll use Discord for voice and Roll20 for playing the game itself. Note that this is a paid campaign (see the Roll20 post for details).
If you like the idea of tromping through a frozen wasteland to uncover the secret behind a bone-chilling cold, I invite you to consider joining our campaign; read the full campaign details and rules here, or if you're already excited about playing with us, please apply to play here.
Here's the introduction, to whet your appetite:
Campaign introduction
A strange and early winter has come to northwestern Faerûn, bringing ill tidings with it. What should have been a lovely fall has quickly become an unnatural chill that runs deeper than anyone in living memory has seen, a phenomenon the locals are calling the Grimfrost.
Up and down the Sword Coast, the Grimfrost has led to weather that's been frigid, gray, and cloudy for weeks, punctuated only briefly by a day of sunlight here and there. Each day that passes kills off more of the harvests and further ravages the food supply. When the land isn't swathed in frozen mists that roll in off from the water or from the high mountains, bands of starving bandits accost travelers for coin, food, or both.
Routine commerce and trade has been made treacherous by impassable roads wracked by blizzards, and sea travel must now contend with huge chunks of floating ice coming from the North. Though no one is in immediate danger, the populace is growing more desperate as food stores begin to dwindle.
A new group offers salvation in these desperate times: the nascent organization of Winter's Thaw, a ragtag consortium of scholars, adventurers, and merchants who are investigating the icy mystery of the Grimfrost.
The leaders of the Lords' Alliance, who would normally respond to such problems with a concerted plan, have been partly occupied by a concurrent rise in intrigues of Zhentarim agents and attacks by frantic, starving people in the borderlands. This has left them unable to turn their full attention to the increasingly serious threat to peace and prosperity posed by the encroaching cold.
No one seems sure what to do next. But one thing is for certain: each week, the cold bites down further, digging in like cruel spikes at the edges of your perception during the frigid nights. At this rate it won't be long before the coasts are ensconced in a permanent frost for a hundred miles inland. Will you brave the perils of the frigid North to find the source of this chill and put a stop to it?
