Hi! I am dming for the first time, but have about a half years worth of experience playing (once a week for 6 hours per session). During this time, I have only been playing as a player, so I have no DM experience outside of writing / planning campaigns. Ideally, I think I would be more comfortable with new/newish players, that way if I fumble or make any mistakes, there is less pressure - however I am completely open to anyone!
Now, onto the fun part! This campaign is set in your average DND time/place, you (the players) are well seasoned monster slayers and return to your keep after a victory only to discover a door in you home that none of you remember being there. This campaign tackles Lovecraftian nightmares with SCP influence, there is disorientation and elements of memory loss. The creatures you encounter are dangerous and disgusting. This is very much a horror campaign with themes of isolation, confusion, and generally has apocalyptic undertones. This campaign does deal with some heavy / existential materials and I will be showing visuals for the creatures you are up against (spoiler: they aren't cute). There is slight body horror and there will be a nondescriptive mention of someone taking their own life, but it is very brief and I intend to give very little visual description.
This campaign is entirely homebrew, I'd say about half of which was created by someone else and I will send proper credit to the party members after the campaign, along with any links to the materials. This is to avoid metagaming. Though, I have tailored it more to my own liking and added/changed things. We will be using discord for voice and for me to send images, then DNDBeyond for character sheets / rolls. I wont be using a VTT as most are not very intuitive or accessible for new players and because we really won't need it. I intend to select players and then collectively figure out a time and date that work best for everyone. Sundays and Fridays are not available for me.
While the themes are scary, I want my "table" to be friendly and openminded! I would even say I prefer players who are also in the LGBT community and/or are neurodivergent. Though of course that is not a requirement at all but being kind and respectful is nonnegotiable! Be mindful of the type of humor you have and be mindful of your character interactions - this is a cooperative game and this campaign specifically WILL NOT WORK if anyone decides not to be a team player.
