Post Body

Aloha, my name is Mark and I have been playing/DMing since 1986. I started with 1e/Basic all those years ago, and have DM/GMed many systems (D&D, GURPS, Mechwarrior, World of Darkness, etc) and it seems that everyone is in love with 5th edition these days.

I haven't DMed a campaign for many, many years, and am on the fence about D&D 5e, but as I stated, people seem to love it.

I have a homebrew world that I have been developing for over two years now (on and off) that has seen a few re-writes. I haven't got enough of it developed for 5e (it was initially developed for GURPS to be a more gritty, realistic, low-fantasy world like a Game of Thrones meets Call of Cthulhu), but I have the starting area, the entire world mapped, and a few plot hooks/adventures ready to go (along with a deep history and major storyline that will unfold as you play).

Currently I have no place to host. I rent a very tiny room in a house in Honolulu, and can't have anyone over. It sucks, but it is what it is. So, if anyone could host, that would be amazing, as playing outside is really a challenge (like at a park) because of the wind.

The time and day are up for discussion, though the weekend seems to be the most universal for people, so I was thinking Saturday or Sunday at 10 am until I need to cut it short so I can develop where you decided to go next. I'm pretty good (or I use to be) at just making stuff up on the fly, so this could be an all day affair.

Please note I do not use D&D Beyond. Never will. While digital tools can be amazing, I prefer to be "old school" and have physical copies of a book and not have to re-buy everything just to use the material online. I prefer paper and real dice, people face to face (all vaccinated, I hope). The last reason for this is that if D&D Beyond ever shuts down or deprecates a book I bought, I will be out that money (Google Play Music, anyone?).

That being said, I am considering using a virtual tabletop (like Foundry VTT) if everyone has a laptop, and we could connect through wifi/hotspot and that way I can have everything I need right on my laptop.

I am very open to brand new players, though those with the munchkin/murder-hobo play-style need look elsewhere. This is a setting for story, intrigue and survival against the Things that lurk in the shadows rather than a light-hearted romp through dungeons where your focus is on player power and loot. Your actions have consequences, I will DM the world as a real world would react to your activities. There will be no saving you from fate just because your a PC (look at how Matt Mercer DMs his world, that's how I do it).

If this game sounds interesting to you, feel free to comment below or send me a direct message. Let me know a little about you, where on the island (O'ahu) you are, and if you can host. Please note that I want players to start with humans, as the societies of the non-human species found on my world aren't like those presented in the core D&D books. I still need to tweak them. As players uncover the other species (I don't call them races), they will become open for play for future characters.

I look forward to hearing from interested parties, and if this post is still up, I'm still looking! Ideally, I would like a group of about 4-6 players (though I have DMed for up to 10 in the past, 5e has a lot of moving parts in combat, so the group size needs to remain manageable until I get familiar with the system).

TLDR: I am in Honolulu forming a 5e group for a gritty homebrew world.

Day: Saturday or Sunday at 10 AM.
