Hi /r/rpg,
I've been Keeping Call of Cthulhu for something like three years now, and for the most part, I've run with the same mix of 5-10 people off and on during that time. Problem is, now that we've all graduated college, our sessions have been getting rarer, and I'd like to get a new core group together to play with on a regular basis.
My motives for doing this are twofold:
1) I really enjoy Keeping and would like to do it more.
2) I operate a semi-hemi-demi-famous Call of Cthulhu podcast, and I'd like to keep it fresh with new content (I'm down to maybe 1 post/3 weeks at this point).
A little about my Keeping style:
I tend to run on the pulpier side of things, you'll be able to get away with more film noir antics than in a hardcore campaign setting. Everything is story driven, combat is not tactical (no miniatures), but I keep it extremely lethal. Sessions usually run 3-4 hours. We use The Keep to store our character sheets. I'm comfortable running 6th and 7th edition (though I've been running mostly 8th edition since it came out). We play over Google Hangouts. I use I only have four house rules:
1) Jet cannot have guns.
2) KO at 0hp (unless you get your head blown off or get eaten). -1hp/rd bleed to -10, then you die (medical rolls will stabilize).
3) Starting skills cannot be higher than 75%
4) Dave's Bar, Keeper of Journals and Purveyor of Wares
Dave's Bar is a benign mythos entity which looks like a shabby Irish pub on all but the highest astral planes. It exists in every town on every world in the multiverse stream except for those on which it does not. Dave's Bar is mysteriously stocked with all the libations and equipment anyone would ever need to do anything, but it dispenses these at its own discretion, pursuant to its obscure alien motives.
Spell: Contact Dave's Bar
Cost: 0d4 SAN, 0MP
Player characters can attempt to contact Dave's Bar by saying any of the following incantations:
"Weg'o tu'abar"
"Iluk fo'abar"
"Ah niid ehdri nk"
"Ine edtu shot h'ist osomb ody"
Other formula are rumored to exist in the tome "I Went To Dave's Bar and All I Got Was This Stupid Tome." Copies exist in the collections of most garbage-collecting agencies.
I'm willing to run a homebrew campaign if that's the general consensus, but I tend to stick to printed campaigns and scenarios I've written for publication (currently one, which is still in the alpha/beta phase pending some tweaks), as they run tighter.
In any event, if this has grabbed your attention, feel free to ask me any questions you might have in this thread. If you'd like to play, PM me your details/availability (please convert the times you're available to Mountain time) and a little bit about yourself and why you'd like to join. Once we've got four players, I'll schedule a game- if we make it to eight players, I'll gladly start a second group.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
