In the village of Amphail just north of the City of Splendors a group of rangers recently discovered a the entrance to pre-Waterdhavian ruins tunneling deep under the Sword Mountains. The initial scouting team has not returned afteer a tenday. Fearing the worst, the rangers have hired a team of adventurer's to brave the ruins and discover what lurks behind the Veil of Wonder
I've been running DnD and other tabletop games since the early 2000s, but I haven't run or played a game in about two years and I'm definitely rusty. I prefer theatre of the mind for the most part since I come from an IRL game background, but I'm totally willing to make/use battlemats and roll20 since I know newer players, especially fully online, tend to be more visual. Regarding playstyle:
- I view tabletop rpgs as interactive improvised group storytelling over more board gamey-styles
- For DnD specifically, I tend towards more mystery and exploration genre over grand adventure.
- I grew up with a DnD that generally had a lot more horror elements, and I am a big horror fan. Safety tools in this regard are worthwhile just to manage expectations.
- I prefer low/mid tier (levels 1-10) games to high tier.
- With many new players now familiar with BG3, I'm totally down to play within the Forgotten Realms setting, although be aware I've got a rather specific and unique iteration of Faerûn that's got around 250 years of divergent history starting around 1390's DR and currently is at 1504 DR. Knowledge about the Forgotten Realms as a player in this setting amounts to randomly discovering Easter Eggs in my games.
- Any experience, including none, is welcome.
- Games will be played with a combination of Discord and Roll20
