In the world of Faerun, the encroaching Abyss is always a threat. Who fights the monsters? Who stares into the void?
The Abyss Watchers, a secretive organization spanning [insert region here], stand at the vanguard, the as front line in the never-ending war against demonic corruption on the Prime Material plane. You will become one of them as the newest recruit in Camp 47, also known as Demonâs Dive, one of the many nomadic groups of Watchers who travel around Faerun investigating rumors of demons, demonic corruption, and cult activity. The Abyss Watchers take all kinds, any creature willing to take up arms against demons. The have one maxim that rises above all others: destroy the Abyssal taint wherever you find it, by any means necessary.
This game is set in the Forgotten Realms but uses the PF2e system. Due to their lofty goal, the Abyss Watchers tend to be a morally gray organization where the end justifies the means, as long as the end is killing demons. Sessions include roleplay, making those morally difficult decisions, and intense combats ranging from high Moderate up to, rarely, Extreme, and follow a somewhat âmission of the weekâ format as the team chooses which mission to pursue next.
So far, the Abyss Watchers have cleared out a minor demonic infection in Phandalin, failed to route corruption taking root in Baldurâs Gate and lost two Watchers in the process, and eliminated part of a cult of Dagon and had their camp attacked by the cult in turn. Since then, the much-weakened Camp 47 has moved, combined with another camp, and is trying to recover; the party, their primary strike team, is investigating reports of troglodytes who worship Demogorgon, but has been side-tracked by a cult to the human-supremacist god Zarus. The Zarus cult is establishing a foothold too close to the weak Camp 47, which like most Abyss Watcher camps is populated mostly by non-humans, and must be taken care of.
Variant rules used: Automatic Bonus Progression, Free Archetype, Ancestry Paragon
The party so far:
Saval, a âHarpyâ (Strix) Maestro Bard with the Rogue archetype. Charismatic, charming, deceptive, and a little bit racist towards humans, this colorful bird was voted Camp 47âs new leader after the previous one was lost on a mission, right before the disastrous mission to take care of the Dagon cultists.
Urburu of the Glade, a Human Monk with the Druid archetype. They take on animal forms in combat and fight with the fury of nature, and spend their downtime communing with the land to heal demonic taint.
Arebus, a Fleshwarped âHumanâ Fervor Witch with the Blessed One archetype. She heals and buffs her allies in combat, and in her downtime studies demons to learn better how to kill them.
Farone Windflute, a Satyr (homebrew) Monk with the Cleric archetype. A cleric of Pistis Sophia, he provides healing outside of combat and is likely the nicest person in Camp 47, acting as a moral compass in uncertain timesânot that his advice is always heeded.
