Hey folks,
I've been on Lexapro about 2 years. I don't honestly know if it really did anything or not but the time has come for me to get off of it. I feel like it's reached the end of its usefulness, if it ever did anything, and I am in a better place now than I was when I started it. I just don't want to keep my body on it much longer.
I only ever took 5mg daily. I had such severe side effects when I started it that I was afraid to go up to 10mg and my doctor said that was fine. From what I understand, 5mg isn't always considered a full dosage, depending on who you ask, and many doctors don't even recommend tapering off from 5mg-- that's considered the bottom end of most normal tapering cycles in the medical literature and the medical advice seems to be that I could even stop taking this cold turkey (I am not going to do that.)
So to be extra careful, I have given myself a month long tapering schedule, from the full 5mg down to just a tiny sliver, then to nothing. I think this should be ok but if anyone has experience with tapering off from a low dose, I'd appreciate any info. I don't have health insurance right now and to even talk to a doctor costs $200 at my doctor's office, so I know the first step is always asking a doctor but I can't do that. Thanks.
