Duckbag's (@t0p3ya) birthday is coming up and he needs levels to celebrate! He wants challenging levels that use only one screen with no camera movement.
HOW IT WORKS:
- Submit your levels at levelcup.net on the event page HERE!- You are required to login with discord in order to submit or vote so that we may contact the winners.- Each creator is allowed to submit one level, each subsequent submission by that person will overwrite their last submission.
- All submissions must follow the theme. Those that don't will be disqualified.
- Submissions must be published after the start of the event. Older levels are not eligible.
- Levels must be submitted by 11:59pm (PDT) on May 25th.
VOTING/SCORING:
- Voting will be for 1 week after the submission deadline. Everyone gets 3 votes but may not vote for their own levels.
- In addition to voting, Duckbag will be rating all levels based on the criteria of Challenge, Depth, Fairness, and Aesthetics. See the Scoring Criteria section below for more details.
- The 3 levels with the most votes and the 3 levels with the highest ratings from Duckbag will win prizes.
PRIZES:
- Exposure Bucks prizes will be given to the players who get the most votes: 40k for first place, 30k for second, 20k for third. the same amount of Exposure Bucks will also be awarded to the 3 highest rated levels according to Duckbag-- 40k for first place, 30k for second, 20k for third. 10k EB will also be given to the player(s) with the most shoes and ribbons on the level submissions.
- Winners may choose whatever levels they want the EB on (contact timconceivable! on discord to claim your prize).
SCORING CRITERIA:
Challenge: 25 possible points
Generally speaking, more challenging levels will be scored higher. If the difficulty feels luck based or extremely monotonous, it may score less. Challenge requires interesting difficulty and variety.
Depth: 25 possible points
The level should feel rich in mechanical content, and the player should be able to notice improvement after practicing the level. Small variations to the challenge, or clever changes to the room can increase its depth. There are many ways to increase the substance of your level, experiment!
Fairness: 25 possible points
The challenge should feel fair. this is harder to achieve with very difficult levels, it often requires lots of playtesting and tuning. Big ideas should be introduced logically and the player experience needs to be constantly taken into consideration.
Aesthetics: 25 possible points
The level must be single screen. No camera movement is ideal for this contest. Minimal one-time camera movement is allowed at the start of the level. If the camera moves at any other time, points will be deducted. Camera movement as the result of rifting the player to a separate room would probably only be permissible if it was the goal room after the level is finished. Rifting to a separate room for gameplay would disqualify it. Zoom levels can change during the level, though it should be done sparingly and with caution. Visual queues can help contribute to aesthetics and fairness. Too many signs or arrows may clutter the space, which could result in a lower score. The overall aesthetic is important, but functionality is equally important.
