My Dad was finally diagnosed today with AML. Hes had low hemoglobin for 3 months requiring transfusions. We are in Canada. Specifically him in Ontario and me (and sisters) in BC. I told him to fight for a biopsy or a doctor who would take him seriously; and finally after the biopsy last week a doctor called him yesterday and said it was definitely Leukemia. Then got him into a rapid cancer clinic in Toronto to tell him its AML and they need to come up with a plan in the next 2 weeks following a few more tests. At this point he is suggesting 5 weeks admitted for aggressive chemo. My Dad also has a lung infection right now on account of having no white blood cells. This is more of a vent - I feel helpless and I'm a nurse. I can research and educate myself as best, and trust his care team but I know either way things dont look great because it is pretty well advanced. My Dad doesnt want us to drop everything and go there until there is a solid plan in place, but it just all feels very heavy and honestly annoying right now. I'm always the optimistic & positive one, and if mindset alone could cure it our family is set up but seriously Fuck Cancer
