Someday, youâll back on this time and realize it was for the best. As young people, we are career driven, goal chasing and fortune hunting. I didnât want love. I didnât have time for it. I wanted all these things which; now that I think about it, werenât really worth having.
Had I written this letter say 25 years ago, there wouldâve been time, things could have been different. The old saying goes âyou reap what you sow.â So many lessons learnt too late. So much wisdom passed by in favor of anger, greed, pride and envy.
Now as you approach 50, many of the people you knew and grew up around have passed. Few remain, but their time is drawing short too.
Forget about finding love. Itâs just not on the cards. The ship has sailed, you went after the wrong ones and got burned and jaded. Christmas makes this time worse, you see the happy couples and the young lovers and you think: âwhy canât it be me?â The rational part of your mind says: âyou see what they want you to see.â You donât know what theyâre going through if anything.
Alas, to draw this to a close. What doesnât kill you makes you stronger. Christmas without a plus one isnât so bad. Just plaster a smile and pretend for one day everything is alright and like 45 christmases before, youâll make it.
