This is like one of those posts yes. I am not a huge youtuber, I am a very small one, but I had a minor achievement today, and am close to 1k vies after a month, which is very good for me, but the learning experience has been huge.
I have one goal for you: Always look at your past vid and try to improve at least bit by bit. Cut a little bit more, edit a little bit more, experiment, see what you and your viewers like.
For example: I have added a facecam, and some feedback was that it added to the experience, but it's a very subjective thing for viewers. I mainly added it to combat my anxiety, and I like it. JUST DO WHAT YOU WANT!
These two bullet points are important: Do what you want, and improve the quality of your video bit by bit.
Another good thing is planning ahead, and see how you can attract new people etc.
And one more thing, and I will leave this mess that I wrote behind: as a small LP'er WRITE PUBLISHERS FOR KEYS.
I have written around 50 e-mails, and the feedback was 4 keys so far, which imo is amazing. I admit I have a template e-mail, and I add some personal touch to them each time. Some will respond, some will not, but at least you exlaimed that you exist, and they should pay attention. I also said that if I don't meet the requirements, I would welcome an e-mail that lists what are those, this shows that you are humble and understand if they don't give you a key, because you have not earned it yet.
For those curious I have got keys for these games: Defend From Candyland (found on reddit, here I think), Battle of Finland Winter War (on reddit as well), Trigon: Space Story (talked to publisher representative on discord), Citizen Sleeper (got a key by e-mail, was honestly very surprised)
Three publishers responded with their minimum requirements like: 500 subs, 1k subs.
I think two publishers/ creators responded with: the game is not ready for the public but will note your e-mail down (this might be just a nice way of rejecting, but I consider it a win)
Some publishers outright rejected me, or said that they have a limited keys, and will put my e-mail in the queue, and I thanked them for their response and wished them luck with the game, release etc.
And the big majority never respond and that is okay, you can never say you have not tried.
Now these e-mailing might not apply to everyone, but for those who are on the fence about it, please do it!
The last thing I started is being active on twitter, discord servers (on the games server, or on servers about youtube in general for feedback). On twitter I try to follow people that interest me, and post daily if I can about things that interest me, and try to be genuine, not spam other people. I don't have a lot of followers, and that's okay, I also discovered quite a couple of games, publishers on twitter as well.
If you are interested in my channel, I would be willing to give that to you, but I only recently upgraded my mic (to blue yeti from internal mic of gaming laptop..so yeah) so beware of that, and also this post is not really meant for advertisement.
