Hi! I'm a mod over at /r/virtualreality and we've been noticing lately that most-all LP submissions to our subreddit were getting downvoted to 0, presumably because our readership views them as spam. This was frustrating for us because we end up with quite a few submissions dead-on-arrival, and is surely frustrating for the content creator to have their content treated as unwanted.
In light of this, we're experimenting with a new type of weekly thread where video content creators are prompted to post not only their video, but some related discussion about their experience while making the video. Our readership has traditionally been more news/discussion oriented, and it is my hope that by turning each LP submission into a discussion prompt, the 'exchange' is on more agreeable terms with our readership. I also suspect that you guys, having frequent first-hand encounters with new content, would have a lot to contribute to our discussions -- it would be really awesome to have an aggregate thread every week of new VR experiences.
Here is our request for community feedback concerning this: https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/5q7xit/meta_request_for_community_feedback_concerning/
Here is our first weekly thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/5qow2a/weekly_thread_lets_plays_and_firsthand_video/
I wanted to post this here to invite LPers with VR content to participate, and also to additionally ask for your feedback as a community of content creators on this idea. Specifically:
- Is it commonly your experience that your submissions get downvoted on other subreddits? (Or in other words, do you see this same sort of problem elsewhere?)
- Is this accommodation something that would make you feel more welcome or less welcome in our community?
- Do you have any additional suggestions beyond the steps we're currently taking?
Thanks!
