Confused with mimic AI

I was playing with a four stack of my friends on Rend and all four of us went into the mansion together. When we were all leaving through main, none of us exited the building, we opened the door at the same time. When we did two mimics were waiting outside and got three of us. I’m confused how this happened because we watched main and I thought mimics won’t leave building unless all players left building. Also why did I not get [activity near door]? Can someone explain how this could have happened?
