While I love the various concerts we have available to watch, and I know that Les Mis, as an opera, is more about the songs than the acting anyway — I really wish there was a pro-shot version of the full show, scenes and sets and all, without the characters sort of awkwardly ‘acting’ with each other while looking straight ahead. I’ve seen the touring Broadway cast live, and the show really is incredible, I think people underestimate the power of the scenes when they’re fully fleshed out, not just sung stationary into mics.
I’ve always found it sort of odd that there’s never been a pro-shot version of Les Mis. I know there are obviously bootlegs, and of course various movies or other adaptations, but still — it’s one of the most impactful musicals of all time, and I think it definitely deserves a pro-shot recording. Similar to the POTO 25th anniversary recording, which is concert-ized slightly, but not in a way that takes away from the scenes.
Is there a reason for Les Mis not having one yet?
