Post Body

Hi! I’m new to owning Leo’s and this girl is a rescue brought in by my brother. She’s 2 years old in a 10 gallon tank with one rock hide and one wood hide. She has two rock, corner bowls for food and water. One heat lamp and a non-digital thermometer. My brother gave me freeze dried mealworms, a container of calcium, and a container of multivitamins. Came to me with reptile carpet.

Now, onto what I’ve gotten her and/or will be getting her. I already bought 250 large (live) crickets and set them up in a bioactive enclosure. I feed her twice a week with 6 crickets each feeding (depending on size). They’re dusted in calcium and gutloaded before feeding. She also has a multivitamin with D3 in it that goes on her crickets until I can get her a T5 uvb. Once she has uvb she’ll only get her multivitamin every other feeding. She has 24/7 access to calcium and water.

On the 6th she’s getting a 75 gallon tank. I’m getting an Arcadia T5 uvb stick and a digital thermometer for her. I’m also ordering her a moss hide, drift wood, and a lizard hammock with some other decorations.

For substrate I’m doing a diy mix with organic top soil and play sand. She’s on paper towels for now because I didn’t think the reptile carpet was a good option and I didn’t want her loosing any claws/teeth.

Questions I have:

Is there a particular brand that works well for top soil and play sand, or does it not matter so long as it’s organic?

What percent of substrate should be soil/sand?

Is it true leopard geckos won’t climb so everything should touch the floor?

Should I add the D3 multivitamin liquid to her water since she currently has no uvb?

Should I bring her outside each day as the sun is setting/rising until I can provide a uvb light?

How can I get her used to me? She hasn’t been properly handled in a long time..

What behaviors should I watch out for?

Are all the things I listed enough or are there more things I need to get for her?

Am I doing alright as a first time owner? I’ve had her for less than a week..
