When I was a child I used to have sets based around a particular concept (I still fondly remember the pneumatics stuff, seem to remember a a simple manual gearbox as well); at any rate, they were about function, not about recreating a particular (branded) vehicle or whatever in lego.
Lots of people obviously still do mechanics demos in lego, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZvE6ESK_wI, so the parts/sets must exist—and yet all I can find are model building kits.
Is everyone using third-party suppliers or what? If so, any recommendations?
