Any advice for someone starting to collect old sets?

Post Body

Title essentially. I finally have time and extra funds to put money into what I love so I’m excited to get to collecting! I’m generally on offer up and eBay watching n wot not. I’m asking because when I’m lurking through comments here, I noticed some people drop money on something too good to be true and then lose quite a some of money. Along with reading that people print their own off brand version of mini figures which is wild news to me! I generally only pay any mind to those with a decent amount of good reviews and avoid the new accounts with no reviews. Any tips to avoid just getting robbed? Or recommended shopping places?

If you wanna know what I’m gunning for, it’s just first order sets, knights of Ren stuff, hopefully a star destroyer and the big dream sandcrawler (also read that brown pieces are brittle??)
