I'm 22 with a full G and had a clean record until last week. But I did a mistake last week and I wish I didn't. I was driving in a 90 zone and the lane next to me was about the end. The driver in the next lane seemed to not be aware that the lane was ending or was unsure if it was safe for them to move to my lane so I made a split-second decision to speed up (I wish I didn't) so they can just move over to my lane without them running off the lane or colliding into me. It worked and they were able to move to my lane before their lane ended. Then I saw an unmarked OPP cruiser from oncoming traffic as I started letting off the gas pedal.
He pulled me over and told me that I was going 55 over, I explained to him the lane ending situation and he told me he reduced my ticket to a 29 over because I was young with a clean record and apologetic. I really am thankful to the cop because he could have impounded my car and suspended my license. But a 29 over would still increase my insurance and by the looks of it, my insurance company could deny me coverage. Should I see the prosecutor (I believe it's called Early Resolution??) and see if they could reduce it or dismiss it if I took a defensive driver's course? And should I hire a traffic lawyer?
I feel like taking it to court is a bad move since the officer caught me doing much more. It's an awful situation for me as I am a student and someone who has to completely support myself and can barely do so. I wish it never happened but I guess this is life.
