Post Body

My girlfriend (well, ex now) broke up with me. We live together (yes, still). Its unhealthy to stay in the same apt. Its a 1 bedroom apt. What options does one usually have? Do I have to ask the landlord about the possibility to bring a new roomie instead of my gf? Can we sublet the apt? If we sublet, would we get the deposit back? I think the contract says I can, but I just want to double check cause im new in Canada :). This is in downtown Vancouver, BC. This is what the contract says about sublet:

ASSIGN OR SUBLET

1) The tenant may assign or sublet the rental unit to

another person with the written consent of the

landlord. If this tenancy agreement is for a fixed

length and has 6 months or more remaining in the

term, the landlord must not unreasonably withhold

consent. Under an assignment a new tenant must

assume all of the rights and obligations under the

existing tenancy agreement, at the same rent. The

landlord must not charge a tee or receive a

benefit, directly or indirectly, for giving this

consent.

2) If a landlord unreasonably withholds consent to

assign or sublet or charges a fee, the tenant may

apply for dispute resolution under the Residential

Tenancy Act.
