My grandmother who lived in British Columbia passed and left a sizable estate containing at least 2 houses. In total, the houses are valued by the city at around ~$3,000,000 CAD.
The executor is a family member who lived with her up to her passing. I am in the US, and my mother (the other beneficiary) is in a different province.
We have been told by the executor that "the taxes are really high, we must sell everything and that will leave us with a couple hundred thousand to share between us". The executor in general is not being very forthcoming with information, specifics or anything of the like. Apparently there is already a lawyer handling the estate but we haven't gotten any information at all.
My mother and I both agree that the numbers seem wrong. We would like to get an accountant to go over all the numbers together. Is there a way to force this procedure on the executor? The executor is intent on selling everything and leaving town ASAP, and so asking him for information is getting us nowhere.
I was also told I'd get some paperwork in the main but never got anything. What should my exact next steps be?
Thanks for your help!
