What can I do for my child after a sexual assault incident in his school?

Hey everyone, thanks in advance for reading and any advice is welcome. Recently it's come to light as my child is now comfortable telling his mother and I about in appropriate touching on his school bus. His mother was promised and informed by the principle that the parents had been contacted and they'll be giving consequence, but giving my child the only option to confront the other child for an apology and to talk to the schools therapist. Yesterday(Friday) they left me a voicemail saying nothing was done and that they didn't talk to the parents. My son said that this has been going on since he started going back winter break but was too scared that his teachers or his mother and I were going to give him trouble like it was all his fault.

Is there anything I can do? They claim that the child said it was all joking, but my son tells us he'd touch in his boy parts, tell him to stand up so he can sniff his seat, try taking his pants off on the bus to get at his places. The schools telling me to force him to go back to the school so they can talk to him. He isn't remotely comfortable going on the bus let alone to the school. I don't have a personal vehicle and they won't even both trying to compensate taking public transit to take and pick him up. I know there's only a month left but should I pull him out?

Sorry if it's all worded strange I've been fuming since a voicemail I recurved from the school that summed up for them doing nothing of consequence for the other child. In co tact with his drs to get him a therapist and possibly take further but won't be until after the long weekend I assume.

EDIT: thanks again for quick responses, the police are being called about it, sorry I'd don't specify that but I was more curious of other actions that could be taken for this along with it. From the school he attended I was under the impression they never once stood for things like this and would've been handled accordingly. Still fuming of the results thus far and being lied to by them, just waiting now for investigation to put set under way and everything but thanks so far and I'll keep posted to what I can.
