Who is responsible for relocation and temporary housing during major plumbing work

There is currently an issue with the plumbing where any water use in the kitchen starts flooding in the basement unit. Landlord is suggesting we find accommodations while construction is ongoing and they don't know how long it will take. They have our rent for the month as well as last month's rent. Who is responsible for alternative housing costs and associated expenses? And links to specifics would be greatly appreciated.
