I was rear-ended and now the insurance of the person who crashed into me wants me to pay their damages. What can i do?

Happened in September 2022. I merged lanes and was rear ended. Cop wrote me a ticket for unsafe lane change. They claim me at fault even though the case was dismissed and i was found not guilty of the traffic charge. What can i do regarding their insurance wanting me to pay even though i was rear ended? Can i now counter sue for damages?
