Legally what is a reasonable amount of time?

I recently got divorced and on the sentencing paper it said that the amount owed to me should be given in a reasonable amount of time. What is the length of that period before I might have to look into small claims? We are talking almost USD 4000 and we live in the state of Michigan. (Not sure if that would matter or not)
