Basically, there is conflicting information being given to me (m22) about how to go about transferring my dads car over to me. He had no will and no extra documents saying he wanted me to have his car, it was a verbal agreement. He was not married when he died and my sister is willingly letting me have the car. My sister says we have to go through probate court, but when I looked online it says the fees can be very expensive. I plan to call the DMV when they open because I was advised to do that, but I’ve heard I have to go through probate court. I don’t know how any of this stuff works, since I’ve never had someone pass away before, but I was really hoping I don’t have to pay extensive court fees for the car considering there isn’t any dispute over who the car is going to.
edit: thank you to everyone for the help, I feel less intimidated about the process
