Pennsylvania. My cousin and I are the co-owners of the family cabin that was passed down to us after our grandmother passed away several years ago. The cabin had been neglected and we were working to make it a place our families could gather, hunting trips, ATV riding, etc. The property is 16 acres that is next to state game lands. My cousin suddenly passed away about a month ago and did not have a will. His baby momma has stepped in as the executor and is trying to force a sale of the property or have me buy it out at, what I believe to be, an inflated figure. I believe she is acting in bad faith as the executor as she may think she (and their daughter) stands to receive money from it. My cousin and I alternated paying property taxes (I have even years). I bought a lot of the building supplies and he did the install work. My realtor has no experience in rural properties with land and recommends I hire somebody local to assess the property. Iād prefer not to have to retain an attorney for myself, but may have to.
