My grandfather passed away today and my whole family is kind of in emotional shambles right now. He lived in Florida and we(in New York) are now tasked with sorting out all of his affairs financially and otherwise. He lived in a trailer that he hauled around with his truck. We don’t know if he had a will, if he owned or was leasing the vehicle he had or if he owned his trailer either. He also had a storage locker in another state with his possessions in it too. I’m posting on behalf of my dad because we’re now tasked with deciding whether we want to have his body shipped up here for a service or have him cremated as well as getting ahold of his stuff and allocating/destroying/selling them. Where does one normally start in this kind of situation? Who do we begin contacting to sort out all of his possessions and affairs? If this isn’t the most appropriate place to post this then I’d appreciate some guidance. Thank you guys I appreciate it in advance.
