Inherited trailer from dad that has been racking up rent for about 10 years now. Do I have to pay? Should I call a lawyer?

Ok so first off my dad has Alzheimer’s so I’m unable to ask him anything about this. I am his power of attorney.

My dad has a trailer parked in a trailer park in South Texas. I have no idea why but for some reason he stopped paying rent in 2011. I found out about this after taking over his finances when I became his power of attorney. I received a tax notice from the county saying we owed $30 which is how I found out about all this.

I called the tax office and I guess even though we don’t own any land we still owe taxes for land improvements on our RV lot. I let the tax office know that we haven’t been to RV park in years, that we don’t even know if the RV is still there and that we’d like to just release all ownership in order to stop paying taxes. They told me unless we had a bill of sale they couldn’t do anything. They gave me the number to the RV park though.

I called the manager at the RV park and she said rent has been accruing for these past ten years and we owe around $10k. Is there any way to get out of this? I would have assumed that after not getting rent for over a year the RV lot would confiscate everything (which at this point I would have preferred).

Thanks in advance! If you need more info or have clarifying questions let me know!!
