I live in Marietta, GA and about 4 weeks ago 7/29/21 my daughter got her hair done for the first day of school. She has dreads and is still at the point where her hair needs to stay in style for 4 weeks at a time. We usually had my sister in law do it but I wanted some professional opinions about her progress and honestly wanted to stop relying on her as much so I found a well reviewed stylist in our area. Everything seemed to go well at the appointment, the guy was informative and patient, even put a movie on for her as it’s a long process. He said he had a trick to make it a better process for kids and that’s to twist and style it while it’s wet so that it doesn’t feel as tight and therefore it’s more comfortable for them to sit the whole time and the stylist can do their job unimpeded. Once the hair dries, however, it shrinks and it tightens the twists. Not really a problem, they a generally tight by design. My daughter usually complains about the tightness and this time was no different, though it did seem especially bad, I attributed it to everything tightening at once. I still had my wife and SIL check them and they loosened the bun, my daughter said it helped. One other time she mentioned something but it was in passing and once again an adjustment fixed it. Now we are getting prepared for her hair to be restyled and after taking it down notice multiple places where dreads are halfway ripped out of her scalp. A couple spots have sores. I’ve reached out to the stylist multiple times and have been dodged. Doctors visit is planned as well since one spot may be infected. I talked to my wife and we want to sue. What should we expect? How should we start? Is it worth our time?
TLDR: stylist dreads daughters hair too tight causes hair loss and lesions. Now dodging calls. I talked to my wife and we want to sue. What should we expect? How should we start? Is it worth our time?
