Hello everyone, I'm from Texas and currently working from home. My job called me a month ago letting me know my department is ending their WFH and will be returning to office soon.
Before WFH they were doing a terrible job with keeping the entire workplace clean (mold, dead bugs, rotten food, no cleaning service). I'm currently vaccinated, but I'm also on Humira for a chronic illness I have- while I won't reveal the name of it, I will say that Humira is an immunosuppressant. Because of this, I'm extremely immunocompromised. So I have no faith in my job for having kept the workplace clean and safe.
When my HR Department called, I advised them that since we would be forced to return to office, that I would be taking a Leave of Absence until such a time that I felt it was safe for me to return to work. I was told that I have no choice in the matter, and any LOA would not be allowed.
What can I do in this situation? Can I get a doctors note to allow me to keep working from home due to my illness? Are they allowed to completely reject an LOA for a health concern? Any advice I can get would be incredibly helpful.
