Should I tell my landlords that my friend has been staying with me?
Post Body

He got here March 30th, so he has been here just over 5 weeks. Originally, the plan was for him to only stay for 1-2 weeks. Unfortunately some things came up and I allowed him to stay longer but the maximum amount of time I am allowed to have a guest is two weeks, without prior consent from my landlords. Largely, I agreed to let him stay longer because I struggle to take care of myself and having his help with chores and cooking and such has been such a relief that I've come to really enjoy him being here. He is interested in being a full time roommate but he just got a job and needs to save a bit of money before he can fully contribute to rent and bills. He will be leaving May 10th to stay with his mom until he can save enough money to pay rent. At that point, I would request an application for him to be on the lease. However, what complicates things further is that he is on an ankle monitor. He needs approval to move, he can't just pack up and leave. He is also a felon. I don't think less of him because of his criminal record and I do trust him. On Wednesday, the 5th, one of them stopped by to do some maintenance. He saw that my friend was here, but he didn't say anything. This evening, his wife texted me to ask if he was still staying here. And if he is, he needs to be on the lease. I am petrified at the idea of telling them that he has been here the whole time. Is it a bad idea to claim that he has only been back for a few days? Or perhaps to claim that he comes over a couple times a week and that's why they saw him here on Wednesday? Please be kind, I know that I have made a mistake, but I've just been so relieved to have him here that I thought I was willing to take a risk. I realize that I could have spoken to my landlords and asked them if he could stay longer, but I didn't know how long it was going to be and I was afraid they would say no.
Also, I live in Alaska.
