Can I claim a will even if said will is under my maiden's name?
Post Body

I will be getting married soon. As such, my parents have decided to make a couple of changes on their assets and leave some under my name before the big day comes. It is unclear whether they will be doing a donation while still alive, or if it will be left as a will after they die.

That being said, I am considering changing my name to my soon to be husband's, but my parents disagree and now they are stating that if I change it I won't be able to claim the assets (because my name will be different). I stated it should be fine since people change their names all the time, but they insist I can't.

For more info:

I am in Texas.

My parents WILL NOT do the will under my new name even if I change it before getting married.

Please let me know if any other info will be necessary.

Thank you.
