I reported a rape back in August 2020. I gave my statement and had a rape kit done the night of the assault. I hadn't heard anything since September when I submitted my phone for a data dump. After contacting the chief of police, I was called by a new detective assigned to my case. The detective who was working my case was forced to resign November of 2020. I'm not sure why, but all of her cases have been reassigned. All statements she took from me are gone. There's no record of anything and I was recently informed that my rape kit was never dropped off to DFS and they can't find it. There's a receipt for it but the kit itself has gone missing. They want me to start all over with statements and interrogations. I've already lost my job because of the mental strain this placed on me and apparently it wasn't an "accommodating environment for my situation" so I was forced to resign. Do I have any legal standing here against my local police department? Thank you for any advice.
