A mortgage was taken out in his name in 2018 and he just tried to check his credit tonight (he doesn't typically use credit for anything and has never purchased a home). My late grandfather had used his social security number in the past but passed away last november and we don't suspect it was him. What path do we go about finding the details of this mortgage so we can figure out who it was and deal with it? This is incredibly disheartening because we've dealt with homelessness for months and we have not had an easy time since the death. He has an ex that has had access to his mail as well as others that have lived at his former address. We just want to know what we should do in this situation. Thank you r/legaladvice for your time.
