Legal to carry a sword in Virginia

Post Body

So after a HEMA class one day I got to talking with some friends and the idea of wearing a sword for fashion came up. This was quickly followed by someone saying "Yeah but it's illegal to carry around a blade that large." This statement bugged me so I went and looked it up. As far as I can tell it is legal to Openly(in plain view, not concealed) carry a blade of any length or type in public so long as you are not brandishing(holding in a threatening manner) said blade.

My question is this. Is my interpretation of the Virginia state laws correct, and is there any case law regarding this subject that would contradict my interpretation of the law?
